The Good Dog Guide

Things to do

White Cove is located in the Downalong area of St Ives, right next to Porthgwidden Beach and the Island carpark. Porthgwidden beach is right outside the front door and down the slipway, Porthmeor is also close just across the car park and the closest all year round dog friendly beach is between Porthgwidden and Harbour beaches. There are a number of routes to the harbour/town centre all of which are fun to explore through the winding alleys but if you need a route without steps turn right out of the front of the property follow Burrow Road to the T Junction turn right and then left down Fish Street towards the Sloop Inn.

Local beaches:

Porthmeor Beach is great for dog walking and swimming outside of the summer dog ban plus beautiful views of the sunset.

Harbour Beach is dog friendly all year round but with some restrictions in the summer.

Bamaluz Beach is dog friendly all year round.

Porthgwidden Beach is great for dog walking and swimming outside of the summer dog ban.

Porthminster Beach (our favourite beach) is great for entertaining the whole family dogs and children outside of the summer dog ban.

Carbis Bay Beach is a 25 minute walk from Porthminster largely off road so dogs and children can roam free (please check the dog ban on the beach).

Porthkidney Sands between Carbis Bay & the Hayle estuary, is something of a local secret and its dog friendly all year round! There is a small car park next to the church at Lelant, but you can also walk there along the coast path from Carbis Bay.

Walks from the doorstep:

Inland, the Tinners Way runs from St Ives across Penwith to St Just, offering a slightly easier walk than the coast path. You can also make shorter circular routes to Zennor (the Tinners Arms) and a bit further on again is the Gurnards Head Inn both are on a regular bus route too.

Behind St Ives on the Zennor road is Rosewall Hill with its old Cornish tin mine workings and Neolithic and iron age remains and views over to the Penzance coast.

Knills Monument – a great walk through the Tregenna Castle Estate to the top of the hill behind St Ives and Carbis Bay with fantastic views across the bay.

Tehidy country park – a lovely woodland walk with lots of trails to explore.
